My son not only started a little day school at one of the churches here in San Antonio, he also started Gymnastics! I'm totally proud of him. He loves exploring and experiencing new areas in life. He LOVESSSSSS school, I mean all about it. He told me about friends, his teachers, the playground, his snack, the bathroom... haha. I'm also super exciting to watch his little gymnast journey start. Current Mission: BE THE ULTIMATE GYM MOM.
(Just thought Id Share some cuteness... notice the thumbs up in the last video)
Shear Madness Hair Cuts for Kids:
Besides school and gymnastics, I still work at both my jobs (and loving it.) Here's a little peak at some of my latest work:

Shear Madness Hair Cuts for Kids:
Besides all the mom stuff and working, I'm in full swing training for Ragnar Hill Country and the Rock n Roll San Antonio Full Marathon. Its been a struggle (physically) getting longer miles in.... especially if you have to push two kiddos in a jogging stroller... and we've had so much on and off rain! I will not push my kids in the rain, but I will go to the gym and run.
Ragnar Training: Its going... trail running is the hardest challenge for me now because my kids cannot tag along ( 3 year old and 1 year old) With Jason being in school and training for his own races, the balance is hard... but some how... we get it done! I don't have any huge goal with Ragnar other then to feel good, finish strong and enjoy the starry nights with friends.
Rock N Roll Training: Training is going good! I feel great, I feel strong. I have a feeling this race will be a very rewarding for me, I've introduced A LOT of speed training and cross training. I want to feel good after 26 miles. I don't want to feel like I winged it. I've been running as often as I can (3.. sometimes 4 days a week; that includes treadmill and Speed training runs) other days I cross train or listen to my body and rest. At the end of each training week (Sundays) Ill give a more in depth break down of what my weekly training consisted of.

SO excited to see the end of results! Ill be leaving 2016 feeling accomplished, that is for sure!
Good to gear training is going well!
ReplyDeleteI've found it's much better to focus on lots of mileage rather than speedwork. Doing long and slow miles until you have a solid base will help a lot, and will prevent you from getting injured. It can be hard to go slow at times, but the benefits pay off - essentially you end up getting faster while maintaining the same heart rate.
I probably wouldn't do any speedwork until I've been at 40mpw+ for a while. If you never get to 40mpw, that's fine (it feels like a lot, even without kids). Looks like I was around 25-35mpw in the two months before my first full.
Lots more miles is what got me through Ottawa. Before that I ran faster and would get injured or struggle to recover enough to put in extra mileage.
